New Years for the hubby and I is not an evening we celebrate as we are too rock and roll and end up being asleep by 9pm!!
Therefore in 2018 we started a new tradition with the bestie and her hubby and we headed out for a New Year’s Day lunch.
This year (2019), we headed over the hills and far away to the Bee Hive White Waltham. Situated just outside of Maidenhead the Bee Hive is an old fashioned white building overlooking the village green and cricket pitch.
We found this delightful little place on the 50 top gastro pubs in the UK website (link below) and it did not disappoint.
The food here was well worth the drive.
I had wanted a prawn cocktail for AGES!! (I know how retro). I only popped up on the menu. Obviously I had to have this to start. I was served up a little cup of deliciousness, a prawn and smoked salmon cocktail, which was light and zesty with lemon – Yum.
The guys had the rabbit lasagne, which was just something else, if I could have just had a big bowl of the rabbit filling I would have been one happy bunny!!
For main the Pan-Fried Sea Bream with Tarka Dhal, Cucumber, Red Onion & Coriander Salad which was quite frankly delicious and a refreshing change from the stodge I had been stuffing my face with over the Christmas holidays.
A pudding had to be tried, and with 2 spoons for sharing therice pudding with berry compote and granola; was very tasty, but my least favourite course out of all, although still delicious.
The atmosphere was pleasant and the tables were spread out enough that you were not over crowded.
The staff were fantastic, on the ball and extremely helpful, which made for a great experience.
I would definitely recommend this place and hope to visit again soon.
Wheelchair Access – 4 out of 5
The car park had 1 disabled parking space, which was right outside the front of the building with flat access to the front door.
The front door was a little tricky to navigate and if you had a big wheelchair would be quite hard I feel to get through as you have to go through 1 door and do a sharp turn to get through the next, which is all in a very small space.
Once in, the flooring is flat throughout and all tables are a good size and height to get underneath in a wheelchair.
There is a good sized disabled toilet with bars around the loo as well as around the basin.
Pooches Allowed? – Yes in the Bar area and garden
A perfect place for a Sunday lunch, definitely worth a visit. I hope to be back again.
