Date Night at Purnells Birmingham

The hubby and I had seen Glynn Purnell on Saturday Kitchen, with his easy and friendly demeanour and clearly amazing kitchen skills we thought it was a MUST venture to his restaurant

Purnells is a Michelin started restaurant situated in the heart of Birmingham, its a chic, sophisticated, intimate dining experience and serves some of the most mind blowing dishes to enjoy.

The team of staff are welcoming and so helpful, making this little adventure and date night an evening to remember. I even met the the main man himself and he was even more delightful than I imagined.

A cheeky Gin to start off the night and sip on while making very important dinner choices!!

There were a couple of taster menus to chose from, we voted for The Journey each dish on this menu was something that spoke to us and we knew we would enjoy. And it did not disappoint.

Treats from the kitchen were gifted to us, a vinegar hit filling the air and reminding me of chip shop chips covered in salt and vinegar from the paper bag, brought back childhood memories as we were served chickpea chips with truffle.

To start Haddock and Eggs, an intriguing dish served with a cornflake crunch, this dish was a wonderful attack on the taste buds from egg, to curry, to haddock and then the crispy crunch of the cornflakes. Yum!!

Beef Carpacio to follow, which I think was my favourite dish of the night. The thinly but flavoursome cuts of beef and the delicately cooked octopus were a marriage made in heaven.

We then proceeded to the Monkfish, an array of Indian flavours overtaking the senses and tantalising the taste buds.

To the meat where we were served BBQ lamb, I was expecting a lot from this beautifully presented dish but unfortunately it just did not deliver on flavour.

And to finish a dish of white chocolate , berries and sponge, the perfect amount of sweetness, a wonderful hit of bitterness from the frozen berries to finish of this fantastic journey.

I love a date night and this will be one to remember, I could not recommend it highly enough.

Wheelchair Access – 4 out of 5

Access to the restaurant for wheelchair users is through a side door straight into the restaurant.

Tables have an awkward middle stand makes it a little hard to get under.

There is an accessible bathroom with grab rails and lots of room to manoeuvre

Pooches Allowed – No

Final Thoughts

We had such a great food adventure and date night here, I hope it inspires you to go try these Brummy Delights.

Much Love
