I have always been an early riser and from my own experience I have realised that having a morning routine has really helped me start the day off on the right foot, making me feel more awake, vibrant and like I’ve achieved a lot by the time I leave the house for the day ahead.
Although I have had a very woolly routine in the past, the last couple of years I have really tried to implement a solid routine to make me wake up and shine.
Waking up, pressing and the-pressing the alarm is not my bag and if I end up snuggling back up after the music goes off it can actually make me feel more docile and lethargic through the day.
If I jump up and do, then I find my energy levels are higher, I am more enthusiastic and by 9am I feel like I have already conquered a lot for the day.
My daily routine:
⏰ 530am – alarm goes off (this is the form of a playlist that I have created with motivational and empowering songs, to help inspire me for the day ahead. (Take a look at some of my morning tracks).
🕺 Stretch – Move stretch breath with Intention, feeling my beautiful body awaken. Laying on my side I stretch my arms, back, legs doing circular motions. I do the same on both sidrs, since starting this simple motion my back has loosened significantly.
🤛 Tap – Create a ball with your fist and tap starting with arms and working down to the feet. This helps release any tension, invigorates the blood cells and gets the chi around the body flowing
🧘♀️ Stretch – this time I sit up on the bed, i do a number of Pilates/yoga stretches for my spine, lower back and finish off with massaging points on my feet.
♾ Affirmations – Affirmations to help condition my conscious and subconscious mind, helping to make my dreams my reality.
🚿 Shower time – while washing the sleep away I give gratitude for the blessings in-my life and feel abundant for the day ahead. (See my blog post gratefulforgrstitude)
🧴 Brush & Moisturise – supple skin is important. A good body brush from toe to tip to help the circulation, then nourishing the body and skin with an all over moisturise.
🙏 Time to meditate – It’s either a 10 minute breath work or Qigong, but if it’s a day I’m not working then it’s a good hour or 2 connecting with my soul self and the divine.
This is my basic routine, it takes about 40 minutes and will vary slightly depending if I’m in work, at home or a weekend, where I don’t set the alarm and allow the day to flow more naturally.
On work days I maximise my travel time, as I have an hours drive to work and am driven I use this time for more meditation or listening to a book.
When I’m staying at home I will do an hour of exercise after my initial routine followed by a good hour or so of meditation and/or Qigong.
Look After You
It’s so important to look after ourselves inside and out, We don’t have to be strict with a morning routine, as long as there is a basic plan in place. It doesn’t have to take long, just ensure it works for you so you can be energised, tapping into the rest of your day.
Believe me it really can help you start the day off on the right foot, enable you to achieve so much more, not only for that day or week but for your life and true fulfilment.
